SMHA Try Goalie Days Kicks Off with Huge Success

The future of goaltending in Saskatoon is looking bright! On December 7th, the first slate of the SMHA Try Goalie Days—sponsored by Al Anderson’s Source For Sports and powered by Bauer Hockey—proved to be a massive hit, drawing eager young athletes to the crease.

A Winning Start for Local Zones

The ice was buzzing as players from the Comets, Redwings, and Aces zones took their turn between the pipes. Designed for players aged 6 to 10, the event provided a pressure-free environment for kids to strap on the pads and discover the unique thrill of being the last line of defense.

The energy on the ice was matched by the expertise provided by Thorny Goalie Development, who led the on-ice sessions. Their coaches focused on making the experience fun and accessible, ensuring every participant walked away with a smile and a few new save techniques.

Expert Support from the Sidelines

It wasn't just about the on-ice action. Representatives from Al Anderson’s Source For Sports and Bauer Hockey were onsite to ensure the young athletes were ready for battle. From navigating the complexities of goalie leg pads to finding the perfect glove fit, the goalie experts were on hand to help players get dressed and answer questions about the latest gear.

"We are thrilled to be the official sponsor of these sessions. Seeing the excitement on the kids' faces as they try out the gear for the first time is what it's all about," noted the team from Al Anderson's.

More to Come in February

While the first three zones have completed their sessions, the excitement is far from over. SMHA is looking forward to welcoming the remaining zones in February to complete the seven-event circuit.

If you have a young player interested in the "coolest" position on the ice, keep an eye out for the upcoming February dates. It’s a golden opportunity to learn from the best in the business and see if life in the blue paint is the right fit!
