SMHA congratulates the U9B Comet Lazers on winning the 2023 Wendel Clark Community Assist Cup!

The U9 Comet Lazers are the 2023 winners of the Wendel Clark Community Assist Cup.  SMHA appreciates the Lazers' team management and parents for encouraging their players and following through with actively giving back and assisting our community.  The Lazers stepped up to help our community in several ways this past hockey season:

  • The team provided hampers to New-to-Canada families through the Saskatchewan Intercultural Association;

  • The Lazers raised funds for childhood cancer research through Small but Mighty SK;

  • The Lazers players all made special personalized cards for children fighting cancer;

  • The Lazers raised funds for the Silver for Gold program as another way to support Childhood Cancer research.

The Lazers earned their team a free year-end banquet at Wendel Clark's Classic Grill courtesy of owners, Byron and Gary.  Congratulations and enjoy!

Congratulations are also in order for the Finalists, who also submitted nominations that made it difficult to choose a winner.

U11 Wild Thunder

U11 Sonic Aces

U9 Bobcat Rebels

Thank you to all SMHA U9 and U11 teams that submitted nominations!

About the Award:

The SMHA Wendel Clark Community Assist Cup is a SMHA TEAM AWARD that was established in 2019-2020.

The premise is similar to the national Good Deeds Cup that is focused on the U13 age division.  The Wendel Clark Community Assist Cup will challenge all SMHA U9 & U11 teams to be creative and give back or “assist” their community.

The spirit of this award is to encourage and challenge our younger players to think of others in their community.  Hopefully giving back will become part of their lives moving forward.
